You know in these days where over half of the modern world now connects by “broadband” as opposed to dialup I find it particularly interesting when technology not only increases our bandwidth but rather improves how we use it. aacPlus aka AAC+ aka HE-AAC is just one such improvement, especially if you listen to as much streaming music as I do!

Found this script at www.linuxhelp.net and thought I should copy it here to in case it gets lost! (I hate it when that happens!)

For those of you that have no idea what this is you should probably skip this post and read something else…

Excellent article written by Dominic Humphries.

Possibly the best article I have ever read concerning the differences between linux and windows. Archived here for posterity under a Creative Commons License. Newest version of document is available at http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

What if Splice Music was a martial art? December 18, 2006

Posted by oktyabr in make music, personal, splicemusic, tutorials.

My research has led me to the realization that creating music using Splice and participating in the Splice community isn’t as casual as it may first appear! In fact I’m quite certain that sometime in the distant past there might have been a secret discipline involved… one that I have come to call SPLICE-FU!

Think you are worthy?

I’m sure you still cannot use Linux without opening a single terminal window December 15, 2006

The title of this article, “I’m sure you still cannot use a Linux without opening a single terminal window”, is a line taken from the tail end of a blog post about “Biggest Linux Problem: it makes users think” which while I found the article a somewhat interesting read I thought the statement about opening a command line was conceptually wrong…

So what’s this sexy new *buntu have under the hood?

More importantly (at least to me!) is it any good for multimedia?

Kubuntu 7.04 “Feisty Fawn” Herd 1 pre-release: a quick photo tour December 7, 2006

Today the official announcement that “herd 1”, the first public pre-release for what will eventually become Ubuntu 7.04, code named “Feisty Fawn” made it’s way around the linux news sites.

Being a debian and seeing how I finally managed to completely destroy my previous 64Studio install (no fault of the distro itself!) I thought I would give it a quick spin around the block.

From the official announcement:

Come, rest in this bosom, my own stricken deer,
Though the herd have fled from thee, thy home is still here:

Here still is the smile that no cloud can o’ercast,
And the heart and the hand all thy own to the last.

Dyne:bolic 2.3 dhoruba review December 5, 2006

Today I’m going to (try to) review Dyne:bolic 2.3, code named “Dhoruba Solid State”!

Dyne:bolic 2.3 is a “live CD” meaning that you can run it anywhere on any machine that has a CD-ROM drive. The computer doesn’t even need a harddrive to run a “live” CD! But best of all this is a live “multimedia” distro!

Splicemusic: Tubes v.3 my first splice mix (remixed) December 2, 2006

Posted by oktyabr in audio, listen to this, splicemusic, web.

Well, here we go!

As I said in my previous post I’ve been playing with Splicemusic a lot lately, even to the point of neglecting my blog!

What I have for you today is called “Tubes v.3”. It’s the third remix of a song I started a week ago and just could never get it to a point where I considered it “done”.

Splicemusic online December 2, 2006

Ok, I’m guilty…

I’ve been having so much fun playing around with Splicemusic myself that I have totally ignored that fact that this website is definately aching for a blogpost! So, better late than never, let me introduce Splicemusic beta!

Ever wanted to remix some songs? Ever heard a cool drum break that got you thinking exactly what you would do with it if you had the software? Have a couple of recordings you did as the “human beatbox” on your desktop microphone and nothing fun to do with them? Well, my friends, Splice
may be exactly what the doctor ordered…

64 Studio 1.0 “Olympic” released December 2, 2006

After mutilating my most recent install, an early 0.94 release dist-upgraded to 0.99 and then morphed into something completely different
with a liberal dose of debian “unstable” and even (GASP!) “experimental” I thought the release of “Olympic” couldn’t have come at a better time! Downloaded the single ISO (I run the x86 version instead of the 64bit due to my fondness of flash based websites ~rolls eyes~) and burned successfully, I popped it in the drive in my primary machine and gave it a whirl…
