Loose weight and build strength and endurance with only 15 minutes a day… sitting in front of your computer? Ok, maybe it isn’t that easy… BUT it’s a place to start! Taking that first, small step is the key!
First off let me say the usual disclaimer that I am NOT a doctor, nutritionist, therapist, or any sort of fitness expert. In fact I am quite possibly the wrong person to be taking advice on such topics from; I smoke, I drink, I don’t eat a balanced diet and I sure don’t get enough exercise… so there you go. YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)!!!
New York gets it’s first solar electric vehicle charging station January 7, 2010

One of my favorite “green” blogs, Inhabitat , posted an article about New York getting it’s first solar electric vehicle charging station. I’ve seen electric cars before and even ones that charged off of solar but this particular package suggests what’s right on so many different levels that I just had to post about it here too. Now just imagine what might be possible to build on this concept: (more…)

I sat down to watch a little TV and spotted an episode of Top Gear, one of my favorite shows, had been recorded on my DVR. It was an episode I had never seen before so I would have watched it anyway but this particular episode was absolutely EPIC!
Sony Playstation 3: My review January 6, 2010

We’ve lived with a Sony Playstation 3 in our house for just over a year now and I think that’s enough time that I am pretty certain about what I think Sony did right with this version… and what they got wrong!

- The GIMP vs. Photoshop!
On any other forum those words would be considered trolling to start a flame war and the about.com post titled “GIMP: Like it or Lump it?” had some pretty strong opinions in the comments section and mine, which follows below, was one of them 😉 Some of the following might seem a bit out of context as I was referring to what others had said before me but I think you will get the gist of it:
Happy New Years! January 4, 2010

2010 is finally here! I remember being a teenager in high school and doing mental calculations of how old I would be at certain points in time; 2010 was one of them! Man, it seemed so far away at the time too…
My resolution, specifically, is to make a small donation each month to a free/open source software project or service, and of course to blog about it here! I haven’t thought it out much and I kind of like the idea of picking one each month on the fly, so to speak, but my list will definitely include at least the following:
Tutorial: How to listen to your “local” radio stations on your computer December 28, 2009

This is a tutorial on how to listen to “local” radio stations on your computer!
Why? I know, I can hear some of you saying right now “just turn on a fricken radio!” Well, this method has a couple of advantages… one, it doesn’t require a radio! Two, it might let you listen to more channels, with better clarity, than you will get on your typical AM/FM, even some of those “HD radio” streams! Ok, ok, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) based on where you live. But, for an example, I live south of Seattle and using this method I can listen to any of 67 “local” radio stations from my desktop, most of which I would be lucky to tune in at all on a convential radio where I live. I would be interested in hearing from you that live in more rural areas too! I’m not sure how or why the software I will detail in this tutorial works the way it does but I’m curious to know how well it works in other parts of the world too. Let me know, mkay?
Let’s get started!

I originally posted the following on a forum thread with the above title. People that know me know that I’ve been working on a similar project literally for years, even before powerful computers were commonplace (yeah, I’m that old).
What I am more concerned about is doing what hasn’t been done before or at the very least striving to progress in that direction. Some things that are overlooked in *most* of today’s MMORPGs:

Google will produce many results with titles similar to the one heading this post!
Recently this is something I became familiar with first hand when our 13 year old accidentally went swimming with his in the pocket of his shorts. You don’t get a phone much wetter than that folks!
I searched google and was almost convinced we would be spending US$200+ for a replacement when I came across the following tip and decided to try it… (more…)

The Uninformed Skeptic: Eat Right For Your Type January 28, 2009

It was one of those occasions when a relatively large group of my extended family gathered together in a public establishment for an extended period of time, in this case, a fairly popular restaurant. The menu was extensive and offered many appetizing choices and I mulled my decision for quite awhile with a growing amount of impatience and suggestions from parent and sibling alike. One suggestion suddenly stuck out from the rest: “You shouldn’t eat that… you have the same blood type as me.” That’s how the argument started…

I wrote this as an answer to a thread (on a sim racing forum of all places!) concerning a story from the BBC about how music piracy was still an ever growing problem. I spent too much time thinking about and writing my response to have it buried in a forum so thought I would put it here too. As always YOUR comments and opinions are welcome!

Here is one of those posts I write more for my personal reference in the future but I´m happy if someone else gets some use from the information too.
Today I´m posting from my new Ubuntu Studio 8.10 install. This is after trying several new releases of other distros first and even though Ubuntu Studio is still missing a decent realtime kernel it still somehow ended up on my harddrive! Here is the main reason why…
