Music Composition: Tracker – apps

This is something that I have been exploring to some depth in the linux world (just ask me! I dare ya! Laughing ) and have accumulated some valuable links for the windows world as a fringe benefit!

Introducing Skale tracker; a unique, crossplatform tracker-type studio software that is yours for the taking. It’s not the easiest software to learn but is capable of producing some outstanding results.

Another application I would like to share, along similar lines, is the excellent and free Buzz Machines studio software. This one, like Skale, revolves around the “tracker” style mode of composition but has a more modular interface than Skale or for that matter, any other music app out there.

An important similarity is the ability of both Skale and Buzz to make use of any of several hundred free VST instruments and effects available on the web! This makes both of them stand apart from not only the majority of other free composition software but more than one commercial app as well. By learning either software you are opening the potential to use hundreds of unique soft synthesizers, virtual instruments, drum kits, and more. Very difficult to put a price tag on that sort of power.

Buzz has it’s own learning curve but has a HUGE community to draw on for help. It’s no easier than Skale to learn (no program of such complexity IS “easy” to learn!), just different. Hell, they are both free! Try them BOTH! Grin

To be continued…
